Home of the Washington County Historical Society
Spend 3 days learning the ins-and-outs of historic window restoration with Steve Stuckey, former architectural conservator of George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate. Working side-by-side, you’ll be restoring wood windows of the iconic 1865 Frisby House.
In this fun, intense, learn-by-doing environment, you’ll see everything from glazing techniques to glass replacement and even the reinstallation process. Learn about window anatomy and how the materials of historic windows differ from windows of the present.
At the close of the workshop, you’ll walk away with a Certificate in Historic Window Restoration and the foundational, hands-on skills to assist in physically caring for and maintaining a historic building.
Each day includes a brief coffee and lunch break. Information about safety equipment and additional details will be provided in registration confirmation. All levels are welcome, but participants must be 18 or older. All safety techniques will be covered in detail and practiced, including EPA guidelines for working with lead-based paint. Each participant will be required to bring PPE that satisfies governmental guidelines; details will be provided during the registration process.
